Floor Plan & Zones

ToekomstTech is a single-floor space divided into several distinct zones. Each zone has its own character, noise level, and intended use. Understanding the layout helps you work effectively and respect others who are sharing the space.

The Lab

The Lab is the main electronics and fabrication area. It contains:

  • 3D printers — two Prusa MK4S units and one resin printer (Elegoo Saturn)
  • Electronics workbenches — 6 stations with soldering irons, multimeters, and oscilloscopes
  • Microscope station — for fine SMD soldering work
  • Component wall — bins of common resistors, capacitors, ICs, connectors, and more

Noise level: Low to medium. Equipment hums and beeps, but conversation should stay at a reasonable volume. No phone calls on speaker.

The Workshop

The Workshop is for mechanical and fabrication work that doesn't involve electronics. You'll find:

  • Drill press and pillar drill
  • Angle grinder, jigsaw, and circular saw
  • Bench vises (×3)
  • Hand tools — hammers, chisels, clamps, files, rasps
  • Painting & finishing area with ventilation hood

Noise level: High. Power tools are loud. Hearing protection is available on the wall — use it.

The Woodwork Area

Adjacent to the Workshop, the Woodwork Area has:

  • Workbenches with woodworking vises
  • Hand plane, chisels, mallets, marking gauges
  • Scroll saw and belt sander
  • Wood storage (offcuts free for use, labelled stock belongs to members)

Noise level: Medium to high. Sweep up sawdust when you're done — there's a dustpan and a shop vac.

Common Area

The heart of the space. This is where people hang out, have meetings, give presentations, and eat lunch. It contains:

  • A large table seating 12 for meetings or workshops
  • Sofas and lounge chairs for informal chats
  • A projector and screen for presentations
  • A whiteboard wall — use it freely, photograph before erasing

Noise level: Variable. During events, it gets lively. At other times it's usually at conversation level.

The Kitchen

Everyone's favourite zone. The Kitchen has:

  • Coffee machine — espresso and filter. Pods and beans are communal. Contribute to the coffee fund via the QR code on the machine.
  • Fridge — label your food. Unlabelled items get cleared on Friday evenings.
  • Microwave and kettle
  • Dishwasher — run it when it's full. Unload it when it's done.

Kitchen rule: If you use it, clean it. No exceptions. The state of the kitchen reflects the state of the community.

Quiet Desk Area

A row of six desks along the far wall, separated from the Common Area by a low partition. These are for focused, quiet work — coding, writing, research. If you need to take a call, step into the hallway or the common area.

No reservations. First come, first served. Don't leave your stuff at a desk for days on end.

Toilets & Lockers

  • Toilets are at the back, past the Kitchen.
  • Member lockers are in the hallway — ask the board for a locker assignment if you need regular storage.
  • Day-use hooks are available near the entrance for bags and coats.
