House Rules & Code of Conduct

ToekomstTech is a shared space. These rules exist not to be bureaucratic but to make sure everyone can do their best work and enjoy being here. They've been developed collaboratively by members over time.

The short version

Be a decent human. Clean up after yourself. Respect other people's time, work, and focus. Don't break things. If you're unsure about something, ask.

Respect & inclusion

ToekomstTech is open to people of all backgrounds, skill levels, nationalities, genders, and ages. Discrimination, harassment, and exclusionary behaviour of any kind will not be tolerated and may result in immediate removal from the space.

This includes:

  • Offensive comments related to gender, sexuality, disability, ethnicity, religion, or appearance
  • Deliberate intimidation, stalking, or following
  • Sustained disruption of presentations or conversations
  • Unwelcome physical contact

If you experience or witness a problem, speak to any trusted member or contact the board privately.

Cleanliness

  • Clean your workspace before you leave. Every time. No exceptions.
  • Wash your dishes. The dishwasher is there — use it.
  • Sweep or vacuum if you've made a mess (sawdust, solder, plastic shavings — you know who you are).
  • Don't leave food out overnight. Label things you put in the fridge with your name and a date.
  • Put tools back where they came from. If you move something, return it.

Shared tools

  • Don't monopolise equipment for hours if others are waiting. Check in on the inventory system.
  • If something breaks while you're using it, report it immediately — don't just put it back and hope for the best.
  • Consumables (solder, filament, sandpaper, etc.) are communal. Replenish what you deplete, or contribute to the consumables fund.

Noise

  • The workshop and woodworking zones are loud by nature — that's fine.
  • The Lab and quiet desk area are for focused work. Keep voices low there.
  • After 22:00, all loud tools are off. Music from speakers should be low or headphones.
  • Ask before putting on music in a shared space. Not everyone wants your playlist.

Guests

  • You're welcome to bring a guest for a one-time visit.
  • You are responsible for your guest. Brief them on house rules before they arrive.
  • Guests cannot use equipment without supervision by an active member.
  • Repeated guest visits without progressing to membership is frowned upon.

Security

  • Don't let strangers tailgate you through the front door. Always verify who you're letting in.
  • Lock the door behind you if you're the last one in the space.
  • Report anything suspicious to the board.

Consequences

First violations get a conversation. Repeated or serious violations may result in temporary or permanent suspension of membership. The board handles complaints fairly but firmly.
