How to Check In
ToekomstTech uses a lightweight presence system to let members know who's in the space right now. This isn't surveillance — it's a community tool that makes it easy to find collaborators, know when your friends are around, or let others know you're available.
Why we have a check-in system
In a space with over 60 active members, it's impossible to know who's physically present at any given moment without some kind of system. The check-in feature solves two problems:
- Finding people — if you're working on a project and want a second opinion, you can see at a glance who's in the space.
- Social awareness — knowing the space is busy (or quiet) helps you decide when to come in.
How to check in
- Go to your profile page.
- In the Presence section, click "I'm here".
- Your status will show as "In the space" on the members page until you check out or until midnight (whichever comes first).
Automatic check-out: The system resets presence at midnight every day, so you won't appear as permanently present if you forget to check out.
Presence preferences
You can control how visible your presence is in your profile settings:

| Off | You never appear in the presence list, even if you manually check in |
| Manual only | You appear only when you explicitly check in |
| Mobile | Future: automatic check-in via your phone's location (not yet live) |
| Camera | Future: automatic check-in via the space's occupancy camera (not yet live) |
Checking out
Click "I'm leaving" on your profile page. Or just let the midnight reset do it for you.
Privacy note
Only active members can see the presence list. The data is never shared externally and is not stored historically — it's a live snapshot of who's opted in right now.
