How to Invite Someone

ToekomstTech grows through personal invitation. We don't have open sign-ups — new members join because an existing member vouches for them. This keeps the community tight-knit and makes sure everyone who joins has a sense of belonging from day one.

The process

Step 1: The invitation

Any active member can invite someone. Before you invite someone, ask yourself:

  • Have I spent meaningful time with this person? (One conversation at an event is not enough.)
  • Do I believe they'll contribute positively to the community — by making things, helping others, or improving the space?
  • Will I take responsibility for introducing them properly and supporting their first weeks?

If the answer to all three is yes, go ahead.

To send an invitation:

  1. Go to your profile and click Invite Someone.
  2. Enter their email address and a brief note about why you're inviting them.
  3. They'll receive an email with a link to create an account and start their trial.

Step 2: The trial (4 weeks)

New members join on a trial basis for four weeks. During the trial:

  • They have full member access to the space and the platform.
  • They can attend events, use the facilities, and meet people.
  • They cannot invite others.
  • They appear with a "Trial" badge on their profile.

At the end of the trial, the inviting member (and optionally others who've interacted with them) give a brief assessment via the platform. In almost all cases this is a formality — problems during trial are rare. But if there have been concerns, this is the time to raise them.

Step 3: Full membership

After a successful trial, the member is confirmed as a full member. They receive:

  • Full platform access
  • Key fob eligibility (see Opening Hours & Access)
  • The ability to start a standing invoice for membership contributions

What to look for

When considering whether to invite someone, look for people who:

  • Are curious and hands-on — they like making things and learning how things work
  • Are collaborative — they share knowledge, don't hoard, and help people around them
  • Will contribute to the community — not just use the resources but add to them
  • Respect shared spaces — they clean up, return things, and are considerate of others

ToekomstTech is not looking for any particular type of project or technical skill. We have artists, engineers, entrepreneurs, students, and hobbyists. What unites us is attitude, not expertise.

What if a trial doesn't work out?

It's rare, but it happens. If during the trial you observe serious issues — disrespect, unsafe behaviour, not following house rules — speak to the board privately. The trial period exists precisely for this: to give everyone a chance to see if the fit is right, both ways.

If the new member decides ToekomstTech isn't for them, that's fine too. No hard feelings. They can let the trial lapse without any formal action needed.
