Wi-Fi & Network Info
ToekomstTech has a gigabit fibre connection shared across the space, managed by a Ubiquiti UniFi setup maintained by volunteer members.
Networks
| SSID | For | Password |
|---|---|---|
| ToekomstTech | Members (2.4 GHz + 5 GHz) | Ask any active member or check the board in the kitchen |
| ToekomstTech-5G | Members, faster (5 GHz only) | Same password |
| ToekomstTech-Guest | Guests and open evenings | No password |
The guest network is rate-limited and isolated from the member network. It's fine for general browsing but not for large file transfers or development work.
Network rules
- Don't run servers on the member network without checking with the tech team. We've had issues with people accidentally setting up DHCP servers, which breaks things for everyone.
- VPNs are allowed but please don't torrent large files — we share a connection with the whole space.
- IoT devices (smart plugs, Raspberry Pis, microcontrollers with Wi-Fi): Connect to the
ToekomstTech-IoTnetwork (ask for the credentials). This isolates your devices from member laptops. - Port forwarding is available for active projects with a legitimate need — submit a request to
#techon Slack.
Wired ethernet
There are ethernet ports at every workbench in the Lab and at four of the quiet desks. Cables are available in the drawer under the network cabinet. Ports are 1 Gbps.
If a port doesn't work, check if the patch cable is plugged into the switch (the grey rack-mounted unit in the cabinet near the entrance). If it still doesn't work, post in #tech on Slack.
Network infrastructure
We run:
- UniFi Dream Machine Pro as the gateway/router
- UniFi switches (48-port in the main cabinet, 8-port in the Workshop)
- UniFi access points throughout the space (U6 Pro in the Lab, Common Area, and Kitchen; U6 Lite in the Woodwork area)
If you're a networking person and want to help maintain or improve the setup, reach out to the tech team on Slack.
Printing
There's a network laser printer in the Common Area: ToekomstTech-Printer on the member network. Add it via your OS's standard network printer dialog. It uses standard A4, duplex-capable. Replace the paper if you empty the tray.
