Emergency Procedures
In an emergency, stay calm, act quickly, and prioritise people over property.
Emergency contacts
- Emergency services (fire / ambulance / police): 112
- Non-emergency police: 0900-8844
- Poison Information Centre: 030-274 8888
- Space address: Louwesweg 1, 1066 EA Amsterdam
Print or screenshot this page and save the address — if you need to call 112, you must be able to give the address clearly.
Fire
If you discover a fire
- Alert everyone in the space. Shout "BRAND!" (fire) loudly and clearly.
- Activate the fire alarm if it hasn't triggered — the red pull stations are at the main entrance and the emergency exit.
- Evacuate immediately. Do not stop to collect belongings.
- Close doors behind you as you leave — this slows fire spread.
- Assemble at the muster point: the car park on the west side of the building (turn left out of the main entrance).
- Call 112 once you are outside and safe.
- Do not re-enter until the fire brigade says it is safe.
Small fires (contained in a bin or small area)
Only attempt to extinguish a fire if:
- It is small and contained
- You have a clear escape route behind you
- You know how to use the extinguisher
Fire extinguishers are located at: the entrance, the Workshop door, the Lab, and the Kitchen. They are CO₂ type (suitable for electrical fires) except the Kitchen one, which is foam.
Use the PASS technique: Pull the pin → Aim at the base → Squeeze the handle → Sweep side to side.
If the fire does not go out within a few seconds, abandon it and evacuate.
Medical emergency / injury
- Keep the person still — do not move someone who has fallen from height or had a collision unless they are in immediate danger.
- Call 112 immediately if the person is unconscious, not breathing, bleeding heavily, or appears to be having a heart attack or stroke.
- First aid kits are located at: the entrance, the Kitchen, and the Workshop. See First Aid Kit Locations for details.
- AED (defibrillator): located on the wall near the main entrance. The device will give you spoken instructions — you cannot use it incorrectly.
- Stay with the person until help arrives. Send someone to the entrance to guide the ambulance.
Chemical spill
- Most chemicals in the space are benign (IPA, flux, acetone, PLA/PETG materials).
- For a large spill of IPA or acetone: ventilate the area immediately, move ignition sources away, and clean with absorbent material.
- For resin (photopolymer): do not touch with bare skin. Wear nitrile gloves, clean with IPA, dispose of contaminated material as chemical waste.
- For anything you're unsure about: evacuate the immediate area and call the Poison Information Centre.
Power outage
- The space has emergency lighting in corridors and near exits — it activates automatically.
- Secure running equipment before leaving: turn off the 3D printers and bench power supplies.
- If you're alone and the power goes out, don't panic. The UPS on the network cabinet will keep the Wi-Fi running briefly. Contact the board via your phone.
Evacuation
The emergency exit is the door at the back of the Workshop, leading to the alley. Both exits should be kept clear at all times — report anything blocking them immediately.
Muster point: car park on the west side of Louwesweg 1.
Once at the muster point, do a headcount if you know who was in the space. Tell the emergency services if you think anyone is still inside.
